October 2026 | Highlights from Grant Period 2 (November 2025 – October 2026)
We are pleased to announce the release of the second edition of the CYANOACTION Newsletter, highlighting the activities, achievements, and progress of COST Action CA23160 during its second Grant Period (November 2025 – October 2026).
Over the past year, CYANOACTION has continued to strengthen its European network, bringing together researchers, water managers, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance scientific knowledge and practical solutions for the prevention and management of harmful cyanobacterial blooms.
This edition provides an overview of the Action’s key developments, including:
- Pan-European Stakeholder Survey: Progress in engaging stakeholders across Europe, with a network of 363 contacts from 26 countries and a multilingual survey available in 22 languages, gathering valuable insights into cyanobacterial bloom monitoring and management practices.
- Training and Capacity Building: Highlights from the WG3 Summer Training School in Wageningen, the Netherlands, where participants gained hands-on experience in innovative lake restoration techniques.
- Working Group Activities: Key outcomes from meetings and workshops held in Istanbul, Limassol, Amsterdam, and Rome, advancing collaboration on nutrient management, in-lake cyanobacteria control methods, and science communication.
- Scientific Dissemination: CYANOACTION’s participation in international scientific conferences, including the 23rd International Association for Cyanophyte/Cyanobacteria Research Symposium, AquaBioTech2026, and the German Limnology Conference (DGL 2026).
- Researcher Mobility and Grants: Celebrating the 26 grants awarded during Grant Period 2, including 12 Young Researcher and Innovator (YRI) Conference Grants, 6 Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC) Conference Grants, 5 Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs), and 3 Virtual Mobility Grants.
- Upcoming Opportunities: Information on future scientific conferences and opportunities for collaboration, networking, and knowledge exchange.
Through these activities, CYANOACTION continues to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical water management, supporting evidence-based approaches to protect freshwater ecosystems and improve water quality across Europe.
We invite all CYANOACTION members, stakeholders, and interested readers to explore our second newsletter, discover the progress achieved so far, and stay connected with our growing network.
