CYANOACTION COST Action CA23160 is pleased to announce the call for participants for the WG3 Summer Training School, which will take place from 24 to 27 August 2026 at Wageningen University & Research, Wageningen, The Netherlands.
The Training School is titled “Combined Treatment of the Water Column and Sediment with Hydrogen Peroxide-based Oxidants, Coagulants, and Modified Clays for the Removal of Toxic Cyanobacteria” and is organised by Prof. Miquel Lürling. It is primarily suitable for trainees who work on, or are planning to work on, the treatment of lakes using hydrogen peroxide-based oxidants, coagulants, and modified clays for the removal of toxic cyanobacteria.
The programme will combine theoretical and practical components, with the overall aim of training participants on how to perform simultaneous in situ treatments targeting both the water column and sediment affected by cyanobacteria. Learning activities will include sediment and water collection from lakes, analytical determination of phosphorus in sediments through sequential phosphorus fractionation, application of single and combined treatments, monitoring of treatment effects using PAM analysis and microscopy, analysis of intra- and extracellular toxins, and measurement of residual hydrogen peroxide concentrations. The programme will also include lectures on system analysis and the use of the free software Visual MINTEQ.
The Training School will welcome a maximum of 18 trainees. Applications will be evaluated based on applicants’ work or strong interest in lake treatments using hydrogen peroxide-based oxidants, coagulants, and modified clays, alignment with CYANOACTION objectives, motivation, Early-Stage Researcher status, participation from ITC countries, and gender balance.
Trainees will receive reimbursement for travel and accommodation through a daily allowance in accordance with COST rules. Participation is obligatory for all days of the Training School, and trainees will receive a training certificate upon completion. Participants are advised to bring appropriate sampling clothing and waterproof boots for field and laboratory activities.
